Newsgathering

The newsgathering process is a critical part of a journalist's job. How much information a journalist is able to gather will determine the quality of the story published. However, journalists must comply with generally applicable laws while gathering the news, and violating such laws can subject them to civil or criminal liability. For example, trespassing on someone else’s property, misrepresenting oneself, or making surreptitious audio or video recordings, could sometimes lead to lawsuits against journalists.
