California’s Justice Department concealed lobbyist and consulting contracts worth tens of millions of dollars, the Associated Press reported after requesting an internal agency review of documents improperly marked “confidential” and omitted from computerized state records. The department said there was no intentional effort to shield the records from the public but it said it is not reviewing the way it handles such contracts. (1/29/07)
