Connecticut FOI Council Says New London Violated Records Law

Connecticut’s Freedom of Information Commission said the City of New London violated the state’s Freedom of Information Act when it denied a request by The Day newspaper for copies of eminent domain settlements. The city argued that confidentiality clauses in the agreements prevented disclosure, but the commission said a agencies “may not simply contract away the public’s right to know under the FOI Act by including a provision prohibiting any party to the agreement from disclosing its terms.” (1/9/07)
