The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia told the Department of Health and Human Services that it must release Medicare physician claims data for the District of Columbia, Illinois, Maryland, Virginia and Washington state to Consumers’ Checkbook/Center for the Study of Services. The nonprofit group had filed an unsuccessful Freedom of Information Act request for physician-specific data that did not contain identifiable information about patients. (9/11/07)
