Dubai Firm’s Ports Takeover Was Reviewed in Secret

The pending takeover of operations at six American seaports by a Dubai company was vetted by the administration’s Committee on Foreign Investments in an entirely secret process, Washington Post Columnist E.J. Dionne notes. At least two Cabinet members told congressional committees they could not talk about the deal. That makes it tough to “look at the facts” as President Bush urged lawmakers to do when he threatened to veto any legislation aimed at blocking the deal. (2/23/06)
