When the Utah House Government Operations Committee met to discuss changes in the state’s open records law that would block public access to officials’ e-mails, there were two unusual visitors in the meeting room – the editors the state’s largest newspapers, along with their lobbyists and press association representatives opposing the measure. The editors said nothing but the committee got the message and moved to the next item on the agenda without taking any action. (1/19/06)
