Workshop: “Finding the FOIA Freeway: A Workshop for Filing Successful Requests

Location: Virtual

The Trans Journalists Association will host an interactive workshop — led by Director of National Litigation Adam Marshall — intended to guide journalists through the federal records request process, practice methods for finding stories in records, and streamline request tracking.


Conference session: “The Cost of Bearing Witness: Journalist Safety in a Polarized America

Date: April 21, 2026
Location: Las Vegas, Nevada

Staff Attorney Mara Gassmann joins this panel at NAB Show 2026, which discusses how reporters are navigating public demonstrations, protests, and volatile civic moments; what protections exist for journalists, and, if they’re effective; how newsrooms should prepare journalists for these environments; and what responsibility institutions have to defend press access and safety.


Event: RCFP Spring Summit

Date: April 30, 2026
Location: Normal, Illinois

Staff Attorney Kris Cundiff and Vice President of Policy Gabe Rottman will lead this Midwest summit at Illinois State University in partnership with WGLT, Bloomington-Normal’s Public Media and part of the NPR Network. The summit will cover topics such as libel insurance and pre-publication review, newsgathering protections, and covering immigration enforcement. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required.
