Federal Judge Orders Abu Ghraib Photos Released

A federal judge has told the Defense Department it must release photos taken by a U.S. soldier at Abu Ghraib. The order, by federal Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein, was in response to a suit by the ACLU that has already forced release of more than 36,000 pages of documents. Some of the photos taken by Specialist Joseph Darby have already been published, including one of naked prisoners in a pyramid. The government had argued, among other things, privacy rights of the prisoners. (5/27/05)
