The Federal Railroad Administration announced today that it will post investigation reports of major train accidents online.

In resisting the urge to ask, "What took them so long?" we nonetheless applaud the agency’s decision, as such policies go a long way toward making access to public information easier and less costly.

Reports for investigations released in 2005 and 2006 and the first quarter of 2007 have already been posted on the agency’s Web site:  http://www.fra.dot.gov/us/content/1696. Reports for the rest of 2007 will be posted soon, the report said.
