FEMA’s Privacy Stance Blocks Search for Missing Kids

The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s refusal to share its information on New Orleans evacuees has blocked efforts to locate 500 children still classified as missing after Hurricane Katrina. FEMA claimed it could not share the information with charitable organizations, such as the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, or other government agencies. But after the Washington Post raised questions, it make some information available to the FBI. . (12/23/05)
