The Homeland Security Appropriations Act signed into law Oct. 4 requires the department to review Sensitive Security Information whenever it receives a Freedom of Information Act request to determine is the safeguarding designation is still valid. It also calls for automatic release of information three years after an SSI designation unless review the DHS secretary renews the secrecy determination. (10/5/06)
