Five media organizations whose reporters had been held in contempt of court for refusing to testify in the lawsuit brought by Wen Ho Lee, an atomic scientist once suspected of espionage, against the government have agreed to pay $750,000 as part of a $1.6 million settlement. The federal government will pay the remainder, which go toward Dr. Lee’s legal expenses. The reporters faced fines of $500 a day for refusing to disclose their sources in stories they wrote about the case. (6/5/06)
