A new Florida law requires public officials to respond to records requests “promptly and in good faith.” The old law required response within a “reasonable” time. The new wording, vetoed a year ago by then Gov. Jeb Bush, was approved unanimously by both House and Senate and promptly signed by Gov. Charlie Crist. The law directs records custodians to designate a backup when their unavailability would delay release of information. (5/28/07)
