A one-inch strand of hair, preserved as the result of a freedom of information request, may determine whether Texas executed an innocent man for a 1989 killing. The Texas Observer and the Innocence Project filed the request and a follow-up suit in an effort to get DNA testing on the only piece of physical evidence in the murder case linking the defendant to the scene of the crime.
