GAO: Defense Overclassifies Information It Sends to Congress
· Story link
The Government Accountability Office says that the Defense Department classifies about half of the documents on military acquisitions that submits to Congress, with the result that many staff members who need the information can’t always get it. Often, only a small amount of the information in any document is actually classified material, the report notes. It recommends Defense separately report classified and unclassified data, a simple solution that could work in a lot of other areas if government officials wanted Congress and the public to know.
