Georgia Court Weighs When Criminal Case Goes Cold

Georgia’s Supreme Court is considering whether police files in unsolved cases should be available to the public. Police argue these files remain records of “pending investigations” and must be safeguarded. But the Athens Banner-Herald challenged that city’s police for withholding records of an unsolved 1992 murder. Athens police say the victim’s DNA is being processed in a computer data base every two weeks.
