A Superior Court judge reversed himself and agreed to open a pretrial hearing of one of four people accused of murdering six Mexican immigrants. Judge Gary McCorvey also turned down a defense bid to seal all motions filed in the case. He said the Constitution requires extraordinary measures to “ensure the reliability of decisions regarding both guilt and punishment in a case in which the government is seeking to punish a human being by extinguishing his life.” (7/5/07)
