Good News: Wisconsin’s AG Has Same FOIA Rights As Citizen

A trial court judge held that Wisconsin’s attorney general can press a public records act lawsuit against legislators individually even though she can’t sue them on behalf of the state. “The attorney general holds no greater nor any lesser ability than any other person in Wisconsin” to file a records request, Judge David Flanagan said. AG Peg Lautenschlager wants copies of draft concealed weapons legislation legislators have shown to lobbyists but refuse to make public. (5/4/06)
