Strong opposition from open government advocates prompted a House Judiciary Committee in Hawaii to defer a Senate bill that would have created a task force to craft amendments to the state’s Sunshine Law. But opponents argued successfully that the membership of the task force would have been drawn mostly from local governments opposed to the existing law. (3/24/06)
