The House majority whip and the chairman of the Government Reform Committee have introduced a bill, HR 5060, that would create a database of information on all grants awarded by federal agencies. There is currently a common database for contracts but none for agency grants, which are estimated to total $300 million to some 30,000 organizations each year. (4/6/06)
