The House held a rare secret session to debate a bill on secret government surveillance of suspected terrorists. The closed session was requested by Missouri Rep. Roy Blunt, the Republican whip. The last such session was in 1983 to debate support for the Contras in Nicaragua. The House subsequently approved a Democratic surveillance bill that does not provide the protection for communications companies the President sought. (3/14/08).
