Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean said that the best way to get presidential candidates to talk frankly about issues is to “bar the press” when they speak. “If you want to hear anybody’s true views, you cannot do it in the same room as the press,” he told a Mortgage Bankers Association conference. In a pointed reference to television news, he said “the media has been reduced to info-tainment.” Dean did not punctuate these comments with a scream. (4/25/07)
