The federal government spent $43.5 billion on its intelligence activities in the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell announced under a disclosure mandate from Congress. At the same time, he said there would be no additional disclosures of classified budget information because “such disclosures could harm national security.” (10/30/07).
