A veteran State Department interpreter resigned in protest of government secrecy after being asked to sign a new non-disclosure form. The new contract the State Department asked Fred Burks to sign included a pledge never to disclose “any information” that he learned in the course of his government interpreting work to unauthorized outsiders. Fred Burks refused, saying that meant he couldn’t even tell his family about his job. (12/9/04)
