An open government advocate told Iowa legislators that too many public officials “see their responsibility as trying to keep as much information as possible secret.” As a result, they violate the open meetings and records laws and are not held accountable. Kathleen Richardson, executive secretary of the Iowa Freedom of Information Council, urged lawmakers to strengthen the state’s laws. (2/6/07)
