The Jackson (Miss.) Clarion-Ledger has decided the courts are going to have to resolve its months-long dispute with city officials over access to public records. In May, the paper sued the mayor, who agreed to settle. The council, however, presented a separate settlement agreement, and when the newspaper rejected that, balked at the settlement the mayor and the paper had agreed on, apparently because the city attorney has some objections. The Clarion-Ledger said it would press the suit. (8/8/06)
