Judge Orders Palo Alto to Make Employee Disciplinary Data Public

A judge in Pal Alto, Ca, ruled the city must disclose information on why utility workers and managers were recently disciplined but said that the names could be blacked out. Judge Kevin McKenney said that while privacy laws provide employees some protection, the California Public Records Act requires that a conflict between privacy and public exposure “be resolved in favor of public access to information about how the public’s government operates, including misconduct by its employees and what was done about it.” (6/14/06)
