Judge Rejects Bid to Subpoena Reporters Over Grand Jury Leaks

A federal judge in San Diego ruled that  a defense contractor convicted of bribing former congressman Randy “Duke” Cunningham cannot subpoena reporters or government officials to determine the source of grand jury leaks. The contractor, Brent Wilkes, claimed the leaks justified dismissing the indictment leading to his conviction. U.S. District Judge Larry Burns said the leaks had no effect on the verdict even if the leaks temporarily compromised the public interest.  (12/4/07)
