Justice Agrees to Turn Over Legal Memos on NSA Spying

The Justice Department agreed in response to a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit to begin releasing internal legal memos on the administration’s warrantless wiretapping program. The lawsuit was brought by the National Security Archive, the American Civil Liberties Union and the Electronic Privacy Information Center. “There are real secrets and convenient secrets. It may be convenient for the NSA to run this program in secret, but that policy debate, and consideration of the legality of the program, should be open, ” said the archive’s general counsel Meredith Fuchs.
