The Justice Department asked to intervene against a public-interest group which is suing AT & T for helping the National Security Agency in their warrantless surveillance efforts. The Electronic Frontier Foundation suit claims the company’s assistance to NSA violates free speech and privacy rights of citizens. The Justice Department said the “United States intends to assert the military and state secrets privilege” and asked that the case be dismissed. (5/3/06)
