The Justice Department has directed federal departments and agencies that have a FOIA request or appeals backlog – that’s just about all – to draft and post goals for reducing that backlog over the next three years. The goals must be posted on agency websites by Nov. 1. The memo is a second stage in the implementation of the president’s executive order calling for improved service to FOIA requesters. (9/25/07)
