Who needs a Freedom of Information law? Apparently the Los Angeles Controller, for one not-so-ordinary citizen. Controller Laura Chick used the California law to obtain five years worth of audits and other financial reports on the LA school district, which operates independently from the city. She says she wants to audit the audits to determine whether school officials have followed up on recommendations in those reports. (1/4/06)
