Maybe the Request Should Be, What’s In Your Wallet?

Colton, CA, provided a lesson in how public officials can sometimes jerk unwelcomed public records requesters around: Miss the deadline provided by law, then insist the records inspection be supervised but don’t have a supervisor available; insist that copies of all records provided, not just some, be purchased without inspection; heavily redact the records are made available. All of this suggests council members didn’t want the information on their use of city credit cards and cell phones made know after a colleague was charged with 24 felonies for credit card misuse.
