Miami Herald Sues to Get Playhouse Financial Records

The Miami Herald filed a suit against the operators of the historic Coconut Grove Playhouse in an effort to obtain records that would explain how it got $4 million in debt. The playhouse’s artistic director resigned when the financial problems became public, including his using a $125,000 state grant for renovations as collateral to cover the payroll, including his own salary. A forensic accountant called in to review the theater’s fiancés quit after two days. (5/23/06)
