Michigan’s House Speaker, Craig DeRoche, introduced a bill to force the state Department of Education to release the names of any school employees who have been convicted of crimes. A trial court blocked release of the names at the request of the Michigan Education Association after the The Detroit News reported that a review of state police data base revealed more than 4,600 criminal offenses, including 2,200 felonies, committed by school employees.
