Minnesota Supreme Court Rejects Prosecutor’s Bid for Reporter’s Notes

The Minnesota Supreme Court has rejected a local prosecutor’s effort to force the Mankato Free Press to turn over a reporter’s notes from a telephone interview with a man who took his own life during an armed standoff with police. The high court refused to review an appellate court decision that said the paper did not have to comply with a subpoena for unpublished information because of the reporter-source privilege granted by the Minnesota shield law.
