Montana Court Rules High School Discipline Records Are Public

The Montana Supreme Court ruled that the Cut Bank Pioneer Press had a right to see records on the punishment given to Cut Bank High School students who were involved in a BB gun shooting. The court said the school system’s argument that the student’s privacy interests should prevail was “unpersuasive. … The discipline imposed by the board on students of the school, particularly students involved in potentially injurious actions, is a matter of public concern,” the court said.
