NASA Says It Erred in Blocking Scientist’s Interview

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration said in a letter to two members of Congress that it had erred in preventing one of its top climate scientists from talking with the media. Brian Chase, NASA’s assistant administrator for legislative affairs, said in letters to Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Joseph Lieberman, D-Conn. In the letter, Chase said that blocking the interview earlier this year was “contrary to NASA policy.” He also said if allegations of inappropriate editing of scientific materials are true, the agency’s actions were “unacceptable.” (6/13/06)
