A bill to allow video coverage of criminal and civil trials in New York cleared the state Senate Judiciary Committee. It’s been nearly a decade since a law allowing a cameras in the court trial lapsed and was not renewed by state lawmakers. Much of the debate is likely to be over how the presence of cameras will affect the proceedings. One lawmaker said the idea that lawyers won’t “play to the camera defies common sense.” (3/22/07)
