New York Times Sues to Obtain Warrantless Spying Records

The New York Times sued the Department of Defense over its refusal to release records related to the government’s warrantless telephone surveillance program. The Times asked the U.S. District Court in Manhattan to order the government to honor a Freedom of Information Act request for the records or provide a lawful reason why it cannot release the internal memos, e-mails and legal opinions involving the National Security Agency domestic spying.
