Newspaper Association Pulls Back Support for Pennsylvania Records Bill

The Pennsylvania Newspaper Association and Common Cause withdrew their support for a proposed open records bill after it was rewritten by the House State Government Committee. Common Cause Director Barry Kauffman called the revised bill “a mess.” They noted the exemptions are overly broad and that the bill covers only new, not existing records. They also note that an agency could refuse to provide records to anyone they say is harassing them. (10/22/07)
