The House, through the 2008 appropriations bill, has directed the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences not to degrade its journal, a move opposed by science and environmental groups. A committee report accompanying the bill said lawmakers expect the agency to “take the necessary steps to ensure that the quality and comprehensiveness of the journal is maintained,” the Society of Environmental Journalists reported.
