Emilio Garcia-Ruiz

As a managing editor of the Washington Post, Emilio Garcia-Ruiz oversees the newsroom’s development, implementation and execution of digital strategy.

The Post is one of the world's fastest-growing media companies and an acknowledged leader in the use of technology in a newsroom. Among his recent work was supervising a digital reorganization that better integrated operations and product in the newsroom and a successful reimagination of the video team. Before becoming a managing editor, Emilio served as the editor for strategic projects, local editor and sports editor.

Before returning to the Post in 2001, he was the sports editor of the St. Paul Pioneer Press where he directed the newspaper's Pulitzer prize-winning investigative pieces uncovering academic fraud in the University of Minnesota men's basketball program. The series of stories won reporter George Dohrmann the 2000 Pulitzer for beat reporting. Emilio has also been an assistant sports editor and copy editor at the Los Angeles Times, an assistant sports editor at the Orange County Register, an assignment editor and copy editor at the Washington Post and a sports editor/reporter at the Prince George's Journal (RIP) in Lanham, Md.
