NRC Reconsiders, Releases Data on Nuclear Fuel Exports

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission agreed to disclose the amounts of highly enriched uranium fuel sought for export by two foreign countries. The information had been sought by the Nuclear Control Institute, a public interest group, which argued that the secrecy limited public deliberation that in the past had resulted in reductions of international traffic in weapons-grade materials. The NRC said it reserved the right to withhold similar information in the future. (5/11/06)
