NRC Releases Records on Two Nuclear Plants with Safety Concerns

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission, reversing a three-year-old secrecy policy, said it would release 1,900 documents related to two nuclear fuel processing plants, one of which had a spill of highly enriched uranium took place in 2006. Both plants produce fuel for the Navy. “While we must continue to be mindful of the national security aspects of these facilities, we must also remember that our regulatory oversight process should be performed in an open and transparent manner that instills public trust,” NRC Chairman Dale Klein said.
