Scott Reeder’s six-month investigation into teacher tenure in Illinois was remarkable in a number of ways, including his use of the computer to create two large databases of information on teacher tenure and performance. But the most remarkable aspect of his reporting project may be his success at obtaining records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act. Reeder filed more than separate requests in all 876 school districts – more than 1,500 requests in all – and received 100 percent compliance. (1/18/06)
