Twenty open government organizations have expressed a fear that the Justice Department and the Pentagon may allow the destruction of documents related to the detainees at Guantanamo. The organizations cite a three year-old court order that seems to allow the records destruction. “We are concerned that the court’s order could be interpreted to authorize or direct destruction of government records that should be permanently preserved,” said Patrice McDermott, executive director of OpenTheGovernment.org in a letter to the attorney general and the national archivist.
