Open government plans audit shows mixed results

An independent audit conducted by a collection of nonprofit organizations, academics, and other public interest groups revealed great variation in agency compliance with the Obama administration’s Open Government Directive.

The directive, issued on December 8, 2009, required executive branch agencies to develop and publish open government plans by April 7, 2010. The plans were to specify ways to foster agency transparency, public participation and collaboration among government agencies and with the public.

Results of the audit gave high marks to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration while the Departments of Justice and Treasury ranked at the bottom.
