The chairman of the Massachusetts Legislature’s Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight has filed a bill aimed at reforming the state’s open meetings law. Rep. Antonio F.D. Cabral’s bill would provide civil penalties for open meetings violations, subject electronic communications to the meetings law and create a board to oversee complaints and violations. “Today, in an age of government spying, secret wiretapping and increasing government secrecy, we must renew our commitment to openness,” Rep Cabral said.
