The New York Times report on the Pentagon’s efforts to spin news reports on the war in Iraq and Afghanistan by providing special access, briefings and trips for retired military personnel who served as television “news analysts” took almost two years to report because the Defense Department refused to release the records. The Times sued and got the documents a week before the report, a fact not reported in its three-page report. (4/23/08)
